Plagiarism and Essay Writing. Western University has strict guidelines about plagiarism and other scholastic offences. For example, in order to pass an essay course the student must exhibit some minimal level of competence in essay writing and the appropriate level of knowledge of the content of the course.

Many of these courses are topical and do not have essay designations. Courses at the 2200 level are intended to be surveys of specific subfields in History. Students in the Specialization and Major are required to take three of their four mandatory courses at this level, students in the Minor take two.
Undergraduate courses, or combined courses in which undergraduate students predominate must be less than one-third of the student's total course requirement for the graduate degree. Graduate students may not take an undergraduate course at a Western-Affiliated University College (with the exception of programs whose home unit is an Affiliated University College).
If you are taking courses that are not on this list, please contact the Admissions Office for their transfer credit eligibility. Transferred courses with a designation of TRN are not directly equivalent to Western courses but may be used toward your degree. Western courses numbered 1000 to 1999 are considered first-year courses.
Note: Grades assigned for courses taken on a letter of permission at another institution follow the grading scale of The University of Western Ontario.
